ED attaches land worth Rs 1,000 cr in US in loan fraud case

The Ahmedabad zonal unit of Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached 1,280 acres of land, worth Rs 1,000 crore, in California, USA, in connection with an alleged bank loan fraud. For the first time ED had taken such an action in USA, an official said. "ED Indore attaches under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) 1280 acres of land in California, USA, of Zoom Developers Pvt Ltd and Vijay Chaudhary in bank fraud case," the central agency tweeted today.
NEW DELHI: The decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes was taken to create a "corruption-free" India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today as a number of personalities from film and other fraternities welcomed the step.  Among those who welcomed the decision were film personalities Karan Johar, Rajnikanth, Ajay Devgn, Kamal Hasan, Nagarjuna, Ritesh Deshmukh, Subhash Ghai, Siddharth Malhotra, cricketer Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh who tweeted to the Prime Minister praising him for the bold move.  "This step was taken in the interest of our honest citizens who deserve a better India," Modi said on Twitter in response to southern star Kamal Hasan who said, "This move has to be celebrated across political party lines. The Mathura clashes could have been avoided if the Akhilesh Yadav government had followed the high court order in a timely manner, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Thursday said. Voicing concern over the clashes that left two policemen among 29 dead the Governor said whatever happened in the district was unprecedented. "Whatever happened in Mathura was unprecedented. The death of two police officers besides the other people is a matter of grave concern," he told reporters here. Naik said that if the Allahabad High Court's order for removing encroachment at Jawahar Bagh had been followed, the clashes could have been avoided. "We saw what happened when the state government could not implement the Allahabad High Court's orders for removing encroachment at Jawahar Bagh. If the court's directions had been followed in a timely manner, we could have avoided such an incident," he said. Naik, who had directed the government to issue a status paper

Remove fear of harassment among taxpayers, PM Modi tells officials

New Delhi, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the tax officials to remove fear of harassment from the minds of taxpayers and focus on five pillars of administration -- revenue, accountability, probity, information and digitisation (RAPID). Inaugurating the two-day Rajasva Gyan Sangam here, Prime Minister asked the officials to "move towards digitisation" in a bid to make tax administration better and efficient and work towards bridging the "trust deficit".
